The shutdowns imposed by COVID 19 pandemic have pushed teachers, administrations, and parents to work hard to keep learning alive, nevertheless, these efforts are not likely to provide the quality education that’s delivered in the classroom.
The closure of the schools has affected the education of more than 1.5 billion children and youth worldwide due to the pandemic. It should be noted that the closure of the schools is likely to widen the learning gap between the children from lower-income and higher-income families. While many parents with access to technology and the internet are turning to keep their kids learning at home while some may not be able to do so.
There is no doubt that the children are bearing the brunt of the unprecedented outbreak directly or indirectly. The pandemic has also affected many students’ mental health when the exams were delayed. Many students are undergoing mental stress and there is a strong need to address their mental health status without pressurizing them. Parents might also add up to the stress as they are undergoing a lot of pressure with regards to their child’s career.
Although many educational institutes have launched online classes, adapting to these sudden transitions from routine teaching methods might prove stressful for the children. This case might be more relevant for students who are slow learners. Further, the fear of corona is also adding to a lot of pressure.
Schools might have tried to reduce the burden by reducing the syllabus for the students but this might not be a permanent solution but we are not reducing the syllabus when teaching our students. Now is the time to deal with the learning gap before it gets too late. Our students with our guidance are able to not only cover the vital topics with the time allowed to study but it also has helped them broaden their horizons.
